I don’t make money on Medium

Are you like me? Do you consider yourself a failure on Medium? Not that I want to program continued blog failure, but I need to be honest. I make pennies on Medium. I have 165 followers. I see that the posts that tell you how you can do well on Medium are popular. I can’t make that claim. Yet, I continue to make writing here a priority. Why?

There was a time when I first discovered Medium that I thought it was possible to earn some income from it. I read all the blog posts with themes such as — you too can make thousands from writing on Medium. In the Covid lockdown times, I had more time. I thought I needed a side hustle as I wasn’t able to do my normal way of making money — substitute teaching. Also, during the Covid times, I was motivated to do my part for the 2020 election, considered then, the most important presidential election of our lifetimes. (Argh! Now the 2024 one is even more of a fight for democracy!) I thought I wrote a lot. I thought I wrote well. Only one of my essays got numerous reads — with 3,800 views, I earned $21. Most of my essays earn nothing. A few have earned a couple of bucks.
