Setting My Intentions for the New Year:

It’s not a Resolution, It’s a Holy Ritual

Why is it that I feel compelled to post something about the New Year before I can move on to post other things. There’s something ritualistic about it. As if it is a christening of the new year, as if it is taboo to not give the transition — the changing of the one’s place in 2023 from 3 to 4 — it’s due. In that spirit, I call on the Holy Spirits of the New Year to help me form my intentions.

I recently spent a lot of time putting together my year in review for my personal blog. It was a very busy year. I was in my apartment for the entire month only one of the months. That review is more like a scrapbook than of anything reflective. I did another post to document my creative output in 2023. Honestly, mixed reviews. Proud of some of it, but so many things left undone, but a lot of travel done. So that’s reflection — looking back. Now it’s time to look forward, to “set my intentions” for the new year.

I am a political animal. I do think that politics is important. I did my most writing on Medium in 2020 when we needed to change the presidency. The chorus of a song I had written was: “We need to vote him out. Wish that you could see. A racist, narcissistic man is bad for democracy.” Here we are again.
