Ken Follett: The Armor of Light
Defining My Reading Taste
Being Introduced to an Author
Many years ago, I noticed a co-worker reading a thick book every break we had. In between work and break time, I asked her what she was reading, and she gave me that glazed, pleasurable look seen when someone has been captivated by something or another. It was Ken Follett’s first foray into writing historical fiction set in medieval times, The Pillars of the Earth. He had by then become rich and famous with his thrillers set in World War II, such as the Eye of the Needle.
Hooked
I don’t know what attracted me to an epic novel spanning generations about the building of a Cathedral in medieval times. But I was. I think I wanted what she had (Bookgasm). I have to credit Follett with me becoming an avid reader in my adult years. I think I was a sporadic reader before that. Since then, I read every book of historical fiction he wrote, and I still haven’t read the thrillers which were his bread and butter at one time. I also sought out other works of historical fiction set all over the world and in different time periods.
