Kicked Out of the Complacency Bubble

I put a lot of time and energy into political activism four years ago in order to get rid of the Orange Can. We did it. I relaxed. I felt safe. There was an umbrella of protection that bore a semblance to sanity. As the 2024 presidential election battle looms, as well as the opportunity to obtain more progressive representatives in the U.S. Congress, I have been flooded with text messages and emails seeking my support in the form of donations and petitions. My Instagram feed reflects this urgency. But I had not done anything in terms of activism or donations. But now. Now. With the absurd decision by the Arizona Supreme Court to invoke an 1864 law banning all abortions, except to save a mother’s life, I raise my hand, my fist.

It’s not as if it affects me personally. I am way past my child-bearing years. I don’t live in Arizona or any other state where abortion rights are being threatened or removed. But this was the straw for me that broke my lack of action. It’s been building since Roe v Wade was overturned. And it’s the combination of the impending election, and this draconian Arizona decision that has finally made me open my wallet, focus my armchair activism, and look for ways to get…
